We know that Attachment Disorder is very damaging to families.  One of the difficuties

is that outsidersdo not understand that.  So the family living with the disorder are often seen as

having serious problems, but not related to a child.  They judge the parents for being too strict, for

identifying the one child (CWAD) as the problem, when parents are not giving the child a chance.

"Why are you so strict with him/her?"  This is a secondary trauma for adoptive parents living with

children with attachment disorder. 

Why doesn't traditional therapy work?

Traditional therapy is based on developing trust and a relationship with a client.

This DOES NOT work with children who have severe attachment disorder.  First of all,

they need to be developing a relationship with their mother, not the therapist. 

I ally with the parents and the goal is to encourage the relationship between Mom and child.
